Our new classy & eco-friendly windows and doors!

September is weatherization month at my house. Jane and I had an energy auditor inspect our house last spring. He rated it 43 percent efficient and recommended raising that number to 76 percent by installing a high efficiency furnace, insulating the walls and attic, installing Energy Star-rated windows and doors, and putting in a tankless water heater. We’re doing everything but the water heater this month.

Gator Windows did a fabulous job installing 10 new windows and two doors earlier this week. The windows are manufactured by Northstar and feature specially treated low e-glass to minimize heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. This way energy and energy costs don’t go out the window. For more on their energy saving measures, click here. I would highly recommend Gator Windows. It’s a family run business that’s been installing Energy Star rated windows and doors for years. They’re lovely to work with and very professional.

While our new windows and doors get eco-gold stars, they also get a pat on the back for looking marvelous. Our living room, that features five large south facing windows, seems more spacious, and the outside façade that surrounds the windows looks classy. Green and aesthetic. What more can an eco-warrior diva want?

Next week, GreenSaver is coming in to pump our house full of insulation. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
