Reincarnation for stuff

I learned something new this week. As a mid to long distant runner I go through a lot of running shoes. Where do running shoes go to die? Why, in my closet. It doesn’t need to be this way. The Running Room, a Canadian retail outlet, will take in my exhausted running shoes and give them to halfway houses. Of course, you could send them to Goodwill, the Sally Ann, etc. as well.

Here are other companies and organizations that take in stuff…

Car Heaven
Where old clunkers go to when they should die.

Dominion
First order of business is reducing your plastic bag collection by using cloth bags. For the odd plastic bag that ends up in your kitchen, collect them and take them to your local Dominion grocery stores to be recycled. Don’t have a Dominion store? Ask your local grocer if they will provide that service.

Cell Phone Outlets
All cell phone company retail outlets will take in your old phone for recycling. Never throw your toxic phone away.

Know of any more? Please let me know.

Here's a reminder of another great reincarnating place you've mentioned before: www.freecycle.org "changing the world one gift at a time"

From their website:
"The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,121 groups with 3,890,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free."

I've lost count of what has come and gone, but I do remember giving away an air conditioner and an older computer, and getting an entertainment unit and some rollerblades.

And they're all over Canada ! I sent the link to my sister in Vancouver, she gave away a washer and dryer.

Go reincarnataion! Your next life will thank you.

grassroots in toronto will take your old batteries (if you happen to have them that is).

MEC will take back your recycled poly clothes (that is if they're certain brands). Check with them for the labels they will accept.

In Vancouver Free Geek will take your old computer whether it is working or not, no matter what shape it's in.

The Runner's Den in Port Moody will take your old runners as well.
